Présentation d'Emilie

Hello, I am orienting my career towards freelance consulting in materials sciences, and also consider other forms of entrepreneurship. I was a researcher in chemistry and physical chemistry of materials. I worked on developing new materials inspired from what is observed in nature (biomimetic), and possibly from materials obtained from nature (bio-based). I planned research projects, alone or in collaboration with others researchers. I read frequently the state of the art, then designed ideas for new research projects and applied for funding. Once feasible ideas were developed and funded, the implementation of the projects starts with lab work. This part implies lab-housekeeping, learning to use new devices, building experiments in order to get reproducible results, making experiments and be critical and analytical towards the results, mentoring students. When the research topic has been explored and understood, I wrote articles in specialized journals and presented the new data in conferences in order to have discussion with my peers. I graduated from a chemical science and engineering school from Paris, Chimie ParisTech, with also a master's degree from Univeristé Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC) in materials chemistry. Then, I pursued a PhD in UPMC in the field of physical chemistry of supramolecular polymers, which are basicly assemblies of big molecules. Concrete results of my work were about making gels from mixtures of various oils and the compounds I synthesized. After that I had one year postdoctoral position on making wood-based water-repellent aerogels. I joined Aalto University in 2017 in order to combine my knowledge in supramolecular chemistry and bio-based materials. I'll be happy to share about the path of academic research, and a bit entrepreneurship, don't hesitate to ask questions! Emilie
