Présentation de Sarah

Hello, my name is Sarah and I am a Scientific Data Manager for the British Antarctic Survey, a public research institute.

My main aim is to support environmental science and conservation by preparing and publishing environmental data for long-term management. I primarily use SQL, R Python and Linux systems on a daily basis to process and manipulate data for long-term use. I also prepare data portals, using Oracle ApEx, and data management workflows and training seminars about data best practices. My focus is biological data, with a sub-focus on higher predators in polar regions, including penguins, other seabirds and seals.

I completed two simultaneous undergraduate degrees (one Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and one Bachelor of Science (B.S.)) from the University of California, Berkeley in 2019. The B.S. was Society and Environment and the B.A. was in Legal Studies. I then completed a Master of Science in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management at the University of Oxford in 2020. I subsequently worked with the Polar Biology and Conservation group at Oxford before starting at the British Antarctic Survey in 2021, where I currently work.

I am happy to discuss environmental data management, especially with a biological focus. I have also worked as a seabird surveyor, using drones to map seabird colonies, and am happy to expand on this as well. Further, I can talk about coding, specifically R, SQL and Python. Finally, I can discuss elements of law, as I completed an undergraduate degree in this subject.
