Présentation d'Alain
Hello, My name is Alain. After several years in various places, doing Research in Sweden about knowledge management in games, developing driving simulators, working 9 years at EMBL as a software analyst (see below), I moved to supporting and integrationg Data Management Solutions for Scientific Research, mostly in the domain of Life Science, first at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) and currently at the University of Heidelberg in the Bioquant Institute. At the IT Service department of EMBL, I worked on existing software, maintaining and updating them, and if needed replace them, either by software I write, or by off-the-shelf software. We mostly provided Web application (RIA, Java using Vaadin) and back-end facilities, such as cron-jobs. Our data is stored in an Oracle DB and in several LDAP servers linked with our SAP system. At EMBL we are owner of our projects, so work from the idea to the support, with direct contact with the users. I work mostly alone, but need to synchronize with my colleagues in our project. So everyday is managed by myself, I use Trello mostly, and in the project we are several Workpackage managers and we organize our work through shared documents, monthly meeting and a discussion platform. The work in itself consist in dealing with the technical aspects and documenting it thoroughly and in simple terms. From many sources of information I tried to end with a clear overview to help our fellow scientists with their technical setups. We also provide consultations. I started with a DUT in Computer Science (Technical Diploma) then a MSc on Computer Science for Images to finish with a PhD in Computer Science on Urbanism. I worked in Sweden as a Technical Lead, Research Lead, also taught network programming and knowledge management (for PhD Students), then moved back in France for a short period, adding a network support to a driving simulator. I always worked on side-projects and this helped me join EMBL. I am always between Academic and IT. I can telle you about : Software development, Databases, Data Management, API, working on Research Project, working with several institutions. Feel free to contact me if you want to know more about my job Alain
