Présentation de Valentina
Hello, Physicist by training, I specialized in biomedical image processing through a PhD, and am an enthusiast about integrating new AI strategies where data-driven neural networks can help to reach higher modelling complexity. I am currently working as Senior Algorithm Engineer at GoPro, enhancing image quality with embedded digital photography algorithms to improve the well-known action camera's performances. Previously I worked as head of the image processing team at HawkCell, a startup developing new MRI technologies for the veterinarian and preclinical fields. I have developed algorithms that tackle any kind of medical image processing need: from the improvement of the MRI image quality, to the analysis of quantitative MRI data (fMRI, quantitative mappings, ...), as well as quantification for pre-clinical studies. I used both classical mathematical approaches, and new data-driven deep learning approaches. I was in charge of the entire algorithm lifecycle, from R&D conception to the product development for clinical and pre-clinical use. If you are curious about any of my experiences don't hesitate to ask, I'll be happy to share them! In my actual position as Algorithm Engineer at GoPro, I conceive and develop camera simulation and sensor characterization software tools, to assess the sensor characteristics on image quality. Python is the most used language for this tasks. I am also in charge of improving and testing embedded algorithms that impact contrast and exposure of the image (auto exposure, white balance, tone mapping, ...). This code is a mixture of C and C++, and is maintained using CI/CD in a Git collaborative environment. In my previous position as Head of the image processing unit at HawkCell, I was in charge of the management of the image processing and machine learning projects and team. Tasks spanned from R&D conception of image processing algorithms for MRI, using classical mathematical modelling and deep learning strategies; product development of R&D projects; development of image and data analysis pipelines for pre-clinical studies; publishing scientific papers and participate to congresses to share the novelties; supervise PhD students, and manage international collaborations with industrial and academic partners. I have a Physics' master degree, done at the University of Milan, Italy. I did a PhD in biophotonics (working on optical microscopy and image processing for biological applications) for the Institut Fresnel, under the University of Aix-Marseille. I quit academia to join HawkCell, a startup developing innovative tools for MRI in the veterinary field. I am currently working as Senior Algorithm Engineer for image processing at GoPro. I can share info about my Physics studies and Phd, as well as the transition from academia and industry. I have been focusing on image processing, with a particular interest for biomedical applications, so don't hesitate to ask!
