Hello,

I am the Chief HR Officer at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). I have 26 years Human Resources experience gained in the private sector (18 years in banking), and the rest in non-for-profit.

The ICRC is part of the Red Cross Red Crescent movement. Its mission is to "protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence". ICRC employs just under 20.000 men and women in more than 100 countries, in particular countries where there is an active armed conflict.

Moving to the ICRC has been a turning point in my career and life. Whilst my previous employments were primarily held in western countries, I am now focusing on working with my teams on attracting, managing and motivating talent in countries such as Ukraine, Israel and the Occupied Territories, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Haiti, Myanmar, Sudan, Colombia... I also visit out staff worldwide to connect with the realities of the field and ensure our HR work addresses these needs.

I have gradually moved from the private sector to non-for-profit. After 18 years in banking, I felt the need to put my skills to a different use, where I could have an impact on the type of society I want for my children. I was at the right place at the right time. Gaining experience in organizations with a strong branding like JPMorgan and the world Economic Forum opened doors, for sure. The experience and insights I have gained through my various roles and extra curricular activities (reading, certifying as a coach, training) have been key too.
